September 2013 Meeting

Our September meeting will be Saturday the 14th at 2PM. This time, we’ll be at the home of Ruth Pardue, 1713 Athens Drive in Raleigh. Directions and parking information can be found at http://bookspring.com/1713/.

This month, we’ll be talking about playing a flute with piano accompaniment. We will also feature the music of Painted Raven. Then we’ll take a look at the flutes of Geri Littlejohn. And of course, we’ll make lots of music. If you have a song to share, whether it’s a traditional tune, an improv piece, or a jam with you and a few friends, we look forward to hearing it. If you just want to hang out and listen, that’s cool too. If you’d like to bring a snack to share, feel free to do so.

If you’re up for a road trip this fall, be sure to check out Native Rhythms Festival — http://nativerhythmsfestival.com/. It’s November 8-10 in Melbourne, FL, just south of Orlando. There are always quite a few of us from the Raleigh area there. I’ll be vending there, along with Ed and Dawn from Tree of Life Designs. Our very own Marsha Harris will be taking the stage with Painted Raven. Many other performers will be there, including Randy Granger, Mark Holland, Jonny Lipford, Jan Seiden, and more. They have a full workshop schedule as well, so you can learn quite a bit. The best part is that the event is entirely free. It’s definitely worth the trip.

As always, feel free to get in touch if you have any feedback regarding the flute circle. I look forward to seeing you on the 14th at Ruth’s house.
