June 2016 Meeting

Get ready, folks. It’s time for another flute circle on June 18th at 2PM! This time, we’ll be at the home of Ed and Dawn Dougherty in Roxboro. This will be a special one as we are having a potluck and summer shindig! Please bring a favorite delicious covered dish, tasty snack, and/or heavy hors-d’oeuvre and feel free to bring beer or wine if you prefer. We will also have some on ice. We will not have meat or soda items, so if you wish to have these foods, feel free to bring them. Dawn will be happy to heat up anything that needs warming if needed. We wish to set up outside, barring any extreme weather conditions, so please bring instruments of all kinds and play with us!

This month, we’ll be featuring the flutes of Geoffrey Ellis and the music of Scott August. Dawn will also be going over embellishments, to help you add a little spice to your playing. As always, we’ll also make lots of music. If you have a song to share, whether it’s a traditional tune, an improv piece, or a jam with you and a few friends, we look forward to hearing it. If you just want to hang out and listen, that’s cool too.

Just to add to the fun, if you’ve got some flute CDs that you don’t listen to any more, bring them along. Swap with someone else, and you’ll both have some new tunes. Also, if you have any flutes in your collection that you just don’t play, bring them as well and put a price tag on them. Someone else may be looking for that exact flute to add to their own collection.

Ed and Dawn have two large lab dogs as well as a tiny but spunky cat, in case you have allergies or issues with animals. The address is 359 Green Meadow Ln., Roxboro, phone number 919-801-2846. Look for the USMC garden flag at the end of the driveway. We look forward to seeing everyone on the 18th!
