October 2013 Meeting

Our October meeting will be Saturday the 5th at 2PM. This time, we’ll be at the home of Robin Kirwan, 9712 Straightaway Lane in Bahama, just north of Durham on 15/501.

This month, we’ll be joined by our featured flutemaker and recording artist, Arnold Richardson. A member of the Haliwa-Saponi tribe, Arnold records under the name Tsa’ne Do’se. We look forward to hearing from him. As always, we’ll also make lots of music. If you have a song to share, whether it’s a traditional tune, an improv piece, or a jam with you and a few friends, we look forward to hearing it. If you just want to hang out and listen, that’s cool too. If you’d like to bring a snack to share, feel free to do so.

If you’re up for a road trip this fall, be sure to check out Native Rhythms Festival — http://nativerhythmsfestival.com/. It’s November 8-10 in Melbourne, FL, just south of Orlando. There are always quite a few of us from the Raleigh area there. I’ll be vending there, along with Ed and Dawn from Tree of Life Designs. Our very own Marsha Harris will be taking the stage with Painted Raven. Many other performers will be there, including Randy Granger, Mark Holland, Jonny Lipford, Jan Seiden, and more. They have a full workshop schedule as well, so you can learn quite a bit. The best part is that the event is entirely free. It’s definitely worth the trip.

As always, feel free to get in touch if you have any feedback regarding the flute circle. I look forward to seeing you on the 5th at Robin’s house.
