July 2015 Meeting

Get ready, folks. It’s time for another flute circle on July 18th! This time, we’ll be at the home of Ed and Dawn Dougherty in Roxboro. This will be a special one as we are having a summer potluck and flute party! PLEASE NOTE TIME CHANGE: Flute circle will be starting at 4:00, so that we all may eat an early dinner together and have some evening food and drink. Please bring a favorite delicious covered dish, tasty snack, and/or heavy hors-d’oeuvre and feel free to bring beer or wine if you prefer. We will also have some on ice. We will not have meat or soda items, so if you wish to have these foods, feel free to bring them. Dawn will be happy to heat up anything that needs warming if needed. We wish to set up outside, barring any extreme weather conditions, so please bring instruments of all kinds and play with us! There will be a small raffle just for kicks, so if you have any CD’s you do not listen to, a songbook, a flute you don’t play, flute bag, or anything flute-related you wish to raffle or just simply trade with someone, please feel free to bring it and add to the fun.

This month, we’ll talk briefly about the use of flutes in therapeutic and healing work, and we plan on creating impromptu circle songs together. Bring a few flutes, especially keys such as A and G, since we will be playing the same key together. Beginners are welcomed and encouraged to play, as being a part of a circle song is a great flute teaching tool! Our featured flute maker will be Ed Dougherty of Tree Of Life Designs. If you have one of Ed’s flutes, please bring it along. The featured musician will be none other than Mark Holland. We will be playing some of Mark’s music to get you acquainted with his music and his style, and also prepare you for his sound healing concert on August 8th. Ed and Dawn are pre-selling tickets for the concert at $20, so bring your cash to purchase a ticket. If you wait until the day of the show, they will be $25 at the door, but if we want this concert to happen, we need to pre-sell a sufficient number of tickets.

Ed and Dawn have two large lab dogs, as well as a tiny but spunky cat, in case you have allergies or issues with animals. The address is 359 Green Meadow Ln., Roxboro, phone number 919-801-2846. Look for the USMC garden flag at the end of the driveway. We look forward to seeing everyone!
