Our October meeting will be Saturday the 25th at 2PM. This time, we’ll be at the home of Catrrine Ponall, 2818 Bedford Avenue in Raleigh, near the NC State Campus. Bedford is a one way street, so you’ll need to come in on Dixie Trail, which runs between Wade Avenue and Hillsborough St.
This month, we’ll be talking a bit about playing flute with piano. Catrrine and her sister have been performing recently, combining Native American style flutes with jazz piano, and they’ll be doing a short demo for us. Anyone who is interested will have the opportunity to do a bit of improv with piano as well. We will be featuring the flutes of Roger McGee and the music of Randy Motz. As always, we’ll also make lots of music. If you have a song to share, whether it’s a traditional tune, an improv piece, or a jam with you and a few friends, we look forward to hearing it. If you just want to hang out and listen, that’s cool too. If you’d like to bring a snack to share, feel free to do so.
Coming up in a few weeks, Native Rhythms Festival will be taking place once again in Melbourne, FL. It’s been an amazing festival the last few years, with outstanding performances and a great workshop schedule. This year, they’re adding a 2-day flute school before the festival. You can find the information on the festival at http://nativerhythmsfestival.com/, and details about the flute school are available at http://www.nativerhythmsfestival.com/FluteSchool.htm. If you can make the trip, this is definitely one of the best flute events around.
If you’re willing and able to host one of our future meetings in your home, please let me know. And as always, feel free to get in touch if you have any feedback regarding the flute circle. I look forward to seeing you on the 25th.
