August 2014 Meeting

Our August meeting will be Saturday the 9th at 2PM. This time, we’ll be at the home of Eric Ginsburg, 215 Boulder Bluff Trail in Chapel Hill. Eric says that the house numbers on his street are out of order, so look for the 7 foot tall carved bear by the mailbox. Also, it’s best to park on the street.

This month, we’ll be featuring the music of Geri Littlejohn and the flutes of Ted Ceplina. As always, we’ll also make lots of music. If you have a song to share, whether it’s a traditional tune, an improv piece, or a jam with you and a few friends, we look forward to hearing it. If you just want to hang out and listen, that’s cool too. If you’d like to bring a snack to share, feel free to do so.

Coming up on August 15-17 is the Sunwatch Flute Festival in Dayton, OH. Performers include Jan Seiden, Steve Rushingwind, and Painted Raven (with our very own Marsha Harris). It’s a small event, but I’ve heard great things about it, and I’m looking forward to being there for the first time this year. For more information, check http://www.sunwatch.org/.

Also, coming up this September is Flute Haven (http://flutehaven.com/), a week-long flute school held in Valley Forge, PA. Then, in November, Native Rhythms Festival will be taking place once again in Melbourne, FL. It’s been an amazing festival the last few years, with outstanding performances and a great workshop schedule. This year, they’re adding a 2-day flute school before the festival. Both of these events are definitely worth checking out.

If you’re interested in hosting one of our monthly meetings in your home, please shoot me a message and I’ll put you on my list. And as always, feel free to get in touch if you have any feedback regarding the flute circle. I look forward to seeing you on the 9th at Eric’s house.
